Get out the youth vote in 2024
Our democracy only works when we all participate. Young people are the largest and most diverse group of potential voters in the country, with our own values and our own ideas. Yet, our generation isn’t showing up to vote in high enough numbers.
That’s why our students and organizers are working to ensure young people are full participants in the political process by helping to turn out the vote in local, state and national elections through our New Voters Project. In the fall of 2020, we made nearly 400,000 peer-to-peer personal reminder contacts in the weeks leading up to Election Day, and we saw that hard work pay. We saw record turnout among young people, and we’re keeping up this momentum for the 2024 midterms.
The Student PIRGs’ New Voters Project is hiring Field Organizers to run its non-partisan voter registration and get-out-the-vote campaign in states across the country in Fall 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Run a non-partisan voter registration and turnout campaign in a campus community. Campus Organizers recruit and train a team of volunteers to help register 18-29 year olds, collect pledges to vote, and contact all of these young people to turn out the vote on Election Day.
- Educate students and train new leaders. Campus Organizers teach citizenship and organizing skills. Campus Organizers also oversee an internship program, through which students can earn academic course credit for their work to boost youth voter engagement.
- Build a coalition. Campus Organizers work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations and people to boost youth voter turnout.
