Students around the country are raising their voices, calling on Congress to #DoublePell!
Pell grants are the foundation of American financial aid, and over the last 50 years they have allowed countless students to attend college who may otherwise not have had the opportunity. However, once covering three quarters of an average four-year public degree, Pell grants today cover less than a third.
In the American Families Plan, President Biden proposed adding $1200 to the maximum Pell Grant award, approximately a 20% increase. Although this historic change is welcome, Congress can do more to build on President Biden’s request and use the next budget and COVID relief package to double the Pell.
