This semester, PennPIRG at the University of Pittsburgh joined the Climate Action Campaign to educate and empower Pitt students to #DefendOurClimate. We focused on the political component of climate action and how elected officials, departmental funding, and voter turnout can influence the fight. Our volunteers and interns have worked incredibly hard to help us reach our goals; here are some highlights from the semester!
We met students where they were to discuss the importance of climate action and collected nearly 100 photo-petitions to send to our representatives!
Our club president attended an EPA conference in D.C. to announce the National Youth Advisory Council!
We Adopted-A-Block in South Oakland to combat current issues with waste and plastic pollution.
One of our interns was quoted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to talk about Affordable Textbook opportunities on campus.
Next semester we will be working on the Affordable Textbooks campaign to make Open Educational Resources more affordable on campus and plan to attend Lobby Days in both Washington D.C. and Harrisburg, PA. We are excited to keep taking action on campus!
